This is an excellent review of, and wide-ranging discussion about, our current economic situation. It covers its origin, evolution, current status and a sober prognosis for the near and distant future.  Well, its the best I've seen since...., well, forever.

Its clear, comprehensive, enlightening (he even talks about Oregon, if you can imagine!), insightful and frank.  He covers an incredibly complex field of information about history, culture, psychology, ethics, and economics easily and lucidly.  It really needs to be seen by more people.  The not so rhetorical questions he asks need to be more widely known.  Its long (2 hours), but it goes by painlessly.

I believe that this needs to be the backstory, or the foundation, or near the foundation of, any/all discussions of economic issues we engage others in.

The speaker is an emeritus economics from Amhearst, and the author of several popular books on economics.  The recorded presentation is from a talk in NY last September.  The running time is two hours, including his answering questions from the audience afterwards.

NOTE: I found a YouTube lecture that's also pretty good & I'm appending it here.  Its 1 hour 45 minutes long and was recorded December 9, 2009 at Brown University.

1. Excellent lecture

We  watched this lecture yesterday and found it to be very explanatory of what is happening in this country, even though it dates from before the last election. I wonder what he would have to say now, with the "Nutsi Party" seemingly calling the shots. I've read several of his articles lately, and he should be required reading for progressives. He even has a prescription for what to do about it, and Wisonsin is a start.

2. By the way, he has his own

By the way, he has his own website: http://rdwolff.com/

Lots of neat stuff on it.  There are some on-line courses on modern Marxian economics: http://rdwolff.com/classes

He also now has a regular program on WBAI, NY City,  called "Economic Update."  It airs at noon (Eastern time) on Saturdays.  It streams live on the web, and 90 days of past shows are archived here: http://bit.ly/eN54Cs
